Discovery 5 Electronic Modules Software Update: Enhancements and Improvements

Modern vehicles like the Land Rover Discovery 5 rely heavily on electronic modules and software to manage various functions, from navigation and entertainment to engine control and safety systems. Regular software updates are crucial to ensure optimal performance, introduce new features, and address any potential issues. This article outlines the latest software update for Discovery 5 models, focusing on the key improvements and changes you can expect.

Important Updates to Profiles (Accounts)

This software update brings about a change in how user profiles are managed within the Discovery 5’s infotainment system, now referred to as “Accounts.” The impact of this change depends on whether your region supports InControl Accounts.

Markets with InControl Account Support

For users in markets where InControl Accounts are supported, it’s important to note that only personal settings and navigation destinations linked to a signed-in InControl Account prior to this update will be preserved. Profiles not connected to an InControl Account will need to be recreated after the software update. This redevelopment of profiles as Accounts is designed to provide greater flexibility for future updates and features.

Markets without InControl Account Support

Unfortunately, for Discovery 5 owners in markets where InControl Accounts are not supported, personal profiles will no longer be accessible after this update. This feature will be discontinued in these regions. We understand this may cause inconvenience, and apologize for any disruption.

Exciting New Features in this Update

This software update introduces a range of new functionalities designed to enhance your driving experience:

Interactive Driver Display Integration with Google Maps and Apple Maps

For Discovery 5 models equipped with the Interactive Driver Display, this update brings seamless integration with popular navigation apps. You can now view Google Maps directly in your driver display when using Android Auto, and Apple Maps when using Apple CarPlay. Support for this feature with other navigation applications is anticipated, pending updates from their respective developers. It’s important to note that the Digital Driver Display and Analogue Dials with Central TFT Display are not supported for this feature.

Direct Access to Apple iPhone Favorite Contacts

Apple iPhone users will appreciate the new ability to access their favorite contacts directly from the Pivi homescreen phone tile or via the contacts tab within the Pivi Phone app. This provides quicker and easier communication on the go.

Phone Reminder on Vehicle Shutdown

Based on user feedback, a helpful phone reminder feature has been added for vehicles with wireless device charging. This reminder will be displayed when you shut down your Discovery 5, ensuring you don’t leave your phone behind.

Range Overlay for Range Rover & Range Rover Sport PHEV Navigation

Specifically for Range Rover and Range Rover Sport PHEV models, the Pivi Pro navigation app now includes a range overlay on the map. This is visible when no destination is actively set, providing valuable information about your vehicle’s driving range.

Expanded Wireless Android Auto & Wireless Apple CarPlay Availability

The convenience of Wireless Android Auto and Wireless Apple CarPlay is now available in more countries, expanding access to these popular smartphone integration features.

Improvements and Changes for Enhanced Usability

Beyond new features, this update also includes several improvements and changes aimed at enhancing the overall user experience:

Improved Traffic Information Readability

The traffic information display and text color have been refined to improve readability and usability. This enhancement is particularly noticeable when the Interactive Driver Display is in full-screen map view, making the traffic list clearer and more informative.

Map Update Date Visibility

In the Navigation / About settings menu, the map information now displays the date each region was last updated. This provides transparency regarding the freshness of your navigation data. Notably, the region where your vehicle is located is automatically updated over-the-air in most markets with a valid Connected Navigation Subscription.

Map & Service Subscription Expiry Date Display

The expiry date of your Map & Service subscription is now conveniently visible from the map information screen, allowing you to easily track your subscription status.

Reorganized Phone Settings

The phone settings menu has been reorganized, consolidating Bluetooth, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay settings into a more intuitive and streamlined structure.

Bug Fixes and Performance Enhancements

This software update includes a variety of bug fixes and general performance improvements, contributing to a smoother and more reliable infotainment system experience.

Account Renaming in Touchscreen Interface

As mentioned earlier, “Profiles” are now referenced as “Accounts” within the touchscreen interface, reflecting the updated profile management system.

Please Note: The availability of specific features may vary depending on your Discovery 5’s vehicle specification, model year, and market. It is always recommended to consult your vehicle’s documentation or your local Land Rover dealer for details specific to your vehicle. Keeping your Discovery 5’s electronic modules software updated ensures you benefit from the latest features, improvements, and a more optimized driving experience.
