Evoque Reverse Traffic Detection (Blind Spot System) Wiring and Installation

Floor harness wiring for left, right door, and mirror, including SODL & SODR harnesses are complete and underwent circuit pathway checks before fitting. Verification ensures correct circuit pathways. Wiring also incorporates a circuit for the electrochromic mirror dimming system, driven by the interior rearview mirror, which is prepped for final connection once all wiring is in place.

Passenger side wiring fitting is done, with pathway testing from the RJB repeated to confirm integrity.

The next phase involves driver’s side mirror and wiring installation, followed by routing the floor harness to the RJB. A Side Object Detection Receiver (SODR) was acquired at a good price, expected to arrive as wiring nears completion. The Body Control Module (BCM) indicates “Side Object Detection” is active. However, the Front Control Interface Module B (FCIMB) menu option is pending, anticipated to appear once both SODR & SODL are on the Controller Area Network (CAN).

An alternative aftermarket system is prepared as a contingency if the JLR system activation faces initial hurdles. This backup plan allows for continuous progress, with potential later software updates to the FCIMB for native system integration. The custom wiring harness is designed as a hybrid to accommodate either system, offering flexibility but adding complexity.

Three plugs in the harness support various systems, primarily the JLR system, but with a US-sourced aftermarket backup closely resembling the original equipment (OE) system, which includes Rear Cross Traffic detection.

While numerous aftermarket options exist, this chosen system stands out for its quality fittings, dedicated CAN, and vehicle CAN connectivity, crucial for minimizing false alerts. An additional benefit is an audible Lane Change Warning, a feature absent in the standard JLR system, enhancing safety and driver awareness. Further updates will follow as the installation progresses.
